From world-class eateries and entertainment to sightseeing, these are our favorite after-work pursuits that are easily accessible from The Square.

Food and Drink

Houston is well-known for its culinary scene, and there’s no lack of exceptional restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, and bars to fit your tastes.

Hearsay Market Square

Serving eclectic American cuisine in one of Houston’s oldest buildings, Hearsay Mart Square offers fine dining in a laid-back “chic antique” setting just a 6-minute walk from The Square. Marvel at the exposed handmade brick and vaulted ceilings while enjoying Wagyu beef, shrimp and grits, or mahi-mahi tacos. Sip on a Prohibition era-inspired craft cocktail, or a hard-to-find spirit like Macallan Rare Cask.

The Moonshiners Southern Table + Bar

Get a little country in the city at this Southern-style bar and restaurant. A short drive or walk from The Square, The Moonshiners slings down-home drinks like Moonshine Mojitos and boozy peach tea alongside comfort food like pulled pork sandwiches, hot Nashville chicken, brisket, and po’boys.

Niko Niko’s

Just a 5-minute walk from The Square is some of the best Greek food in town. Since 1977, this fast-casual joint has been feeding Houstonians with fare like gyros, kebabs, falafel, and souvlaki.

The Pastry War

With its quirky decor, pool table, and chill vibes, this mezcaleria — just a 6-minute walk away — may quickly become your designated stomping grounds. Boasting top-rate margaritas and a world-class agave spirit selection, The Pastry War sources its booze from family-owned distilleries in Mexico that the owners have personally visited.

Day 6 Coffee Co.

A coffee shop open from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. is a rarity, but Day 6 knows its audience. Catering to creatives, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople, it fuels the after-work crowd with traditional and specialty coffee drinks along with tasty treats like quiche, brisket kolaches, and pecan pie.

Pro tip: Ending the workday early? Check for happy hour specials at your locale of choice. Both Hearsay and The Moonshiners’ start at 4 p.m.

Music

Whether it’s an intimate show, a rockin’ concert, or a melodic symphony you’re after, Downtown Houston has something for everyone.

Only a 4-minute walk from The Square awaits a concert, a comedy show, or even a live podcast taping. Since 1997, this venue known for its top-notch sightlines and sound system has hosted guests like Coldplay, Sting, Zedd, Lauryn Hill, and Twenty One Pilots.

House of Blues

This classic institution holds concerts and events nearly every night of the week. It’s also home to a restaurant and bar with its own slate of live entertainment, as well as a VIP lounge for elevated nightlife.

Houston Symphony at Jones Hall

Founded in 1913, the Grammy Award-winning Houston Symphony is one of America’s oldest performing arts organizations and the largest performing arts organization in Houston.
